Insta360 X4 Basic Setup

Introduction

The Insta360 X4 camera is compatible with CupixWorks as of August 2024.  Watch a quick introductory video:


Mobile Devices

Older mobile devices do not work with the Insta360 X4 camera. Please confirm your mobile device meets the minimum requirements listed below.


Supported iOS Mobile Devices

  • Requirements: A12 chip or above, iOS 12.0 or above.
  • Models:
    • iPhones: XS, XS Max, 11 series, 12 series, 13 series, 14 series, 15 series.
    • iPads: iPad Air (2020), iPad Pro, newer models.
    • iPods: Not supported.


Supported Android Mobile Devices

  • Requirements: Android 10.0 or above, or HarmonyOS 2.0.0 or above.
  • Models:
    • Kirin 990 or above (Huawei Mate 30, P40, newer models).
    • Snapdragon 855 or above (Samsung Galaxy S10, Xiaomi Mi 9, newer models).
    • Exynos 2200 or above (Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Ultra, newer models).


Remove Lens Guards

IMPORTANT!

Remove the Lens Guards from your X4 camera. We do not support their use.


Steps:

1. Remove each one by holding down the edge of the base of the Lens Guards and twisting counterclockwise.

2. Turn on the X4 camera.

3. Swipe down to open the Settings menu.

4. Confirm that Lens Guard is set to "Auto".


WiFi Connection

TwinCapture

The Insta360 X4 camera connects to TwinCapture without entering a password in the mobile device's settings.

What follows is useful if support needs to troubleshoot an issue or you need to capture without our app.

IMPORTANT! Only capture without our app if instructed by support or the CS team.


X4 WiFi Password

Each Insta360 X4 camera has a unique WiFi password. To view the camera's Wi-Fi password:

  1. Turn on the camera and swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap on "Settings" > "Wi-Fi Settings" > "Password".

Connect to a Computer

The X4 requires you to choose the mode when you connect to a computer. Options are:

  • U-Disk Mode - Transfer files and charge the camera battery.
  • Reverse Charging - Charge the camera battery only.

Always select "U-Disk Mode".


Additional Tips

Required Video Settings for CupixWorks Processing

If you ever need to record without TwinCapture due to an issue, here are the settings:

  • Timelapse Video at 5.7k/30/0.5s
  • Camera lenses are set to Auto.

Steps to make/confirm settings:

  1. Turn the camera on and tap on the camera mode icon at the bottom left of the main screen.
  2. Change the video mode to Timelapse, then tap on the icon to select it.

  3. Tap on the alphanumeric sequence at the bottom middle of the main screen.
  4. Adjust settings to match the image:
    • Resolution: 5.7K
    • Frame Rate: 30
    • Interval: 0.5s

  5. Swipe from top to bottom once settings are selected.
  6. The image below shows what you should see at the bottom middle now:
  7. On the home screen, swipe from the right side to the left side to confirm the camera lenses are set to Auto. Swipe from left to right once confirmed.

Always Keep Camera Power and Screen On

To keep the camera from automatically powering off:

  1. Turn the camera on and swipe from top to bottom of the main screen.
  2. Swipe from right to left.
  3. Tap on the Settings (gear) icon at the lower left.
  4. Tap on Screen Auto Sleep.
  5. Change it to Never.
  6. Tap on the back arrow (<).
  7. Tap on Auto Power Off.
  8. Change it to Never.
  9. Tap on the back arrow (<) twice.
  10. Swipe from bottom to top to exit Settings.
