Overlay and Transform BIM Objects in BIM Compare View

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Introduction

In BIM Compare View, you can overlay BIM objects onto as-built 360° panos within the Capture Viewer, enabling a direct comparison between design models and real-world conditions. You can also transform 3D objects by adjusting their position and orientation along the X, Y, and Z axes. These features help verify alignment, detect deviations, and enhance project coordination.

Overlay BIM Objects in the Capture Viewer

SiteView allows you to transport BIM objects into the Capture Viewer and overlay them onto panos, providing a visual reference for comparing BIM designs with as-built conditions.

Overlay BIM objects onto panos

  1. Navigate to the desired location in the Capture Viewer.

  2. (Optional) Choose the BIM model or model structure to overlay:

    • If multiple BIM models exist, select one or more from the BIM Selector at the bottom of the BIM Viewer as needed.
    • Use the Model Structure option to filter and transport specific object groups. Click the eye icon to toggle visibility as needed.
  3. Select BIM objects:

    • Left-click to select a single object.
    • Hold SHIFT while clicking to select multiple objects.
    • Press ESC to deselect all objects.
  4. Click the Transport icon or Right-click and select Transport Selected.

  5. The selected BIM objects will appear in the Capture Viewer, overlaid on the pano.

Remove BIM objects from the pano

  1. Select one or more BIM objects, then right-click in the Capture Viewer.
  2. Click Selected Object and choose Delete to remove the selected object(s), or select Delete All 3D Objects to remove all overlaid objects.

Transform BIM Objects in the Capture Viewer

With BIM Compare View, you can adjust the position and orientation of overlaid BIM objects within the Capture Viewer. This helps align models with as-built conditions for accurate comparisons.

To transform BIM objects:

  1. Overlay a BIM object onto a pano in the Capture Viewer.

  2. Right-click the selected object and choose Start Transformation.

  3. Adjust the object's position using the following transformation options:

    • Translate (Move) the object:
      • X-axis: Drag the red arrow (move along the axis) or the red square (move while keeping the X-axis fixed).
      • Y-axis: Drag the green arrow (move along the axis) or the green square (move while keeping the Y-axis fixed).
      • Z-axis: Drag the blue arrow (move along the axis) or the blue square (move while keeping the Z-axis fixed).
      • Free movement: Drag the white square in the center.
    • Rotate the object (Right-click and select Rotate to switch to rotation mode):
      • X-axis: Drag the red circle.
      • Y-axis: Drag the green circle.
      • Z-axis: Drag the blue circle.
      • View-relative rotation: Drag the yellow circle.
  4. While moving objects, the 3D Object Notification in the bottom corner of the BIM Viewer will display movement details.

  5. Finalize the transformation:
    • Right-click and select Done.
    • To reset, right-click and choose Reset Transformation.
  6. Visually compare the transformed object with the as-built pano, using the 3D Object Notification to identify any deviations.
