Introduction
This article explains how to prepare and use the Insta360 X6 camera with CupixWorks. It covers essential setup steps such as disabling auto power-off and removing lens guards, as well as transferring files to a computer.
Note: To use the Insta360 X6 with TwinCapture, TwinCapture 3.2.0 or later and X6 firmware 1.1.7 or later are required. This applies to both CupixWorks 4.0 and 5.0 projects.
TwinCapture applies the capture settings automatically (8K time-lapse at a 0.5-second interval), so you do not need to change them on the camera.
Note: CupixConnect does not support the Insta360 X6 yet. Upload X6 captures with Mobile Upload in TwinCapture. CupixConnect support for the X6 is planned for mid-November.
For the full list of supported cameras, see Supported 360° Cameras.
Camera Setup
Note: For first-time setup instructions for the Insta360 X6, refer to this video: Insta360 X6 - Setup Guide. The X6 must be activated in the Insta360 app before its first use.
Always Keep Camera Power and Screen On
To keep the camera from automatically powering off:
- Turn the camera on and swipe from top to bottom of the main screen to open the Shortcut menu.
- Tap the Settings (gear) icon.
- Tap Auto Power Off and change to Never.
- Go back, then tap Display Settings → Screen Auto Sleep and change to Never.
- Swipe from bottom to top to exit Settings.
Note: On the X6, Screen Auto Sleep is under Display Settings, not under General as on the X5.
Note: If automatic PureVideo switching is turned on in the X6, 360 VideoDrive (Beta) captures are recorded in PureVideo instead of normal video. TwinCapture cannot turn this off, so turn it off on the camera before you capture with 360 VideoDrive.
Remove Lens Guards

To remove them: Hold the lens guard base with your thumb and index finger and rotate the lens guard counterclockwise. Repeat for the other lens.
The X6 detects lens guards automatically. While a lens guard is installed, this icon appears in the upper right of the screen: After removal, the icon disappears. Make sure it is gone before you start capturing.
Note: If you replace the X6 lens with the X6 Replacement Lens Kit, run Stitching Calibration (Shortcut menu → Settings → Stitching Calibration) with all accessories removed. A replaced lens may also reduce alignment accuracy.
Connect to a Computer
The X6 saves footage to its built-in storage or to a microSD card. On the shooting screen, the storage indicator (number 1 in the image below) shows SD for the microSD card and a camera icon for built-in storage.
- Storage - remaining recording time and where footage is saved (SD = microSD card, camera icon = built-in storage).
- Battery level - remaining camera battery.
- Shooting parameters - filter, ISO and EV. Shown only when you adjust parameters manually.
- Zoom ratio - tap to zoom, or to turn horizon lock and distortion correction on or off (some modes only).
- Shooting specification - tap to select the resolution and frame rate.
- Lens switching - tap to switch between the front and rear lenses.
- Shutter button - press to start or stop recording.
- Shooting mode icon - press to switch shooting modes.
To change the storage location, swipe down to open the Shortcut menu, then swipe right to open Storage Management.
To copy files to your computer:
- Use the official USB-C cable to connect the camera to your computer.
- Power on the camera and select 'File Transfer'. Wait for the computer to recognize the camera drive.
- Open DCIM > Camera01 folder and copy photos/videos from this folder to your computer.
Note: USB mode must be set to File Transfer when connecting your camera to a computer. This option is selected by default.
If your camera can't connect, try the following:
- Ensure the camera's firmware is up to date.
- Use the official USB-C cable for transfer, as non-official cables may have compatibility issues.
- Make sure the camera is powered on.
