Introduction
This article explains how to prepare and use the Insta360 X5 camera with CupixWorks. It covers essential setup steps such as disabling auto power-off, removing lens guards, and applying the correct capture settings. Guidance is also provided for processing captures without the TwinCapture app when necessary, as well as transferring files to a computer.
Camera Setup
Note: For first-time setup instructions for the Insta360 X5, refer to this video: Insta360 X5 - Simple Setup Guide
Always Keep Camera Power and Screen On
To keep the camera from automatically powering off:
- Turn the camera on and swipe from top to bottom of the main screen.
- Tap the Settings icon at the upper right.
- Tap General → Screen Auto Sleep and change to Never.
- Tap the back arrow (<).
- Tap Auto Power Off and change to Never.
- Swipe from bottom to top to exit Settings.
Remove Lens Guards
We do not recommend recording with the Lens Guards installed, as this may impact alignment accuracy.
Please ensure the Lens Guards are removed before capturing.

To remove them: Hold down the edge of the base of the Lens Guards as shown and rotate counterclockwise to remove. After removal, the icon on the status bar will disappear.
Note: Replacing the X5 lens with the X5 Replacement Lens Kit may also reduce alignment accuracy.
Capturing Without TwinCapture App
Required Settings
Note:
IMPORTANT
The latest firmware (version 1.5.6 or later) is required to process captures without the TwinCapture app. Otherwise, the Insta360 X5 can only be used when capturing through the TwinCapture app.
The following instructions are for cases where you need to record without TwinCapture due to an issue or specific requirement.
- When you connect the camera to the TwinCapture app, the optimal capture settings are applied automatically.
- We strongly recommend using the TwinCapture app—only record without it if instructed by Support or the CS team.
If you ever need to record without TwinCapture, here are the settings:
- Timelapse Video at 5.7K / 30fps / 0.5s interval
- Camera lenses are set to Auto.
How to change/confirm shooting mode settings:
- Turn the camera on and tap the shooting mode icon (number 3 at the below image) at the bottom left of the main screen.
- Change the shooting mode to Timelapse, then tap on the icon to select it.
- Tap the shooting specifications (alphanumeric sequence at bottom middle) to adjust:
- Resolution: 5.7K
- Frame Rate: 30
- Interval: 0.5s
- Swipe from top to bottom to confirm settings.
- On the home screen, swipe from right to left to confirm the camera lenses are set to Auto. Swipe from left to right once confirmed.
Connect to a Computer
- Use the official USB-C cable to connect the camera to your computer.
-
Power on the camera and select 'File Transfer'. Wait for the computer to recognize the camera drive.
Note: USB mode must be set to File Transfer when connecting your camera to a computer. This option is selected by default.
- Open DCIM > Camera01 folder and copy photos/videos from this folder to your computer.
If your camera can't connect, try the following:
- Ensure the camera's firmware is up to date.
- Use the official USB-C cable for transfer, as non-official cables may have compatibility issues.
- Make sure the camera is powered on.
