Work areas define spatial zones within each project level for progress tracking and site navigation. Each work area is drawn as a polygon on the reference plan and organized into groups.
Open the Level Editor
- In CupixWorks, go to the Project Admin Center.
- Go to Project Setup > Levels.
- Double-click a level to open the Level Editor.
- Select the W.Areas tab.
Create a Work Area Group
Work areas must belong to a group. Create at least one group before adding work areas.
- Click Add Work Area Group.
- Enter a name for the group and press Enter.
Note: You can create multiple Work Area Groups per level. Groups are referenced when assigning SiteInsights tracking categories.
Draw a Work Area
- Select a Work Area Group in the left panel.
- Click Insert Work Area.
- Click on the reference plan to define the polygon vertices.
- Double-click, right-click or press enter to close the polygon.
Add a Void Area
A void area cuts out an interior space — such as an open shaft or structural core — from within an existing work area polygon.
- Select the work area to modify in the left panel.
- Click Insert Void in the right panel.
- Click inside the work area boundary to define the void polygon vertices.
- Double-click to close the void polygon.
Note: The void is subtracted from the work area footprint. It appears as an empty cutout in both the 2D plan view and the 3D view.
Set Height and Elevation
By default, a work area's height matches the level's configured Level Height. Adjust these values to cover multi-level spaces or to stack work areas vertically within the same footprint.
Height
- Select a work area in the left panel.
- In the right panel, enter a value in the Height field.
Example: An atrium spanning four levels at 4 m each requires a Height of 16 m.
Elevation
- Select a work area in the left panel.
- In the right panel, enter a value in the Elevation field to set the vertical offset from the level's base plane.
Note: Use Elevation together with Height to stack multiple work areas at different vertical ranges within the same 2D footprint.
Verify Work Area Height in 3D View
After setting height and elevation, confirm the work area's vertical extent in the 3D view before saving.
- In the top-right toolbar, switch to 3D View.
- The work area appears as an extruded 3D volume. Confirm it covers the intended vertical range.
- If adjustments are needed, return to the W.Areas tab and update the Height or Elevation values.
- Click Save.
Copy Work Areas to Other Levels
- In the left panel, right-click a Work Area Group.
- Select Copy to Other Levels.
- Choose the destination levels and click Copy.
Note: Copied work areas retain the same polygon shape, height, and elevation. Review height values on destination levels if floor-to-floor heights differ.
Rename or Delete a Work Area or Work Area Group
- Select the work area or group in the left panel.
- Click the information icon on the top right corner
- Enter the new name or delete from the panel.
Note: Deleting a work area that is assigned to a SiteInsights category removes that assignment. Reassign BIM elements in the BIM Editor as needed.
View Work Areas in BIM Editor
Once work areas are set up, you can toggle their visibility directly in the BIM Editor to verify spatial alignment with BIM elements.
- In the Project Admin Center, go to Project Setup > BIM Files and open the BIM Editor.
- In the left panel, click the Work Areas tab (grid icon).
- The panel lists all configured work area groups and individual work areas, organized by level.
- Click the visibility icon next to a work area group, level, or individual work area to toggle it on or off in the 3D view.
Note: Work area visibility in the BIM Editor is for review purposes only. To modify work area boundaries, height, or elevation, return to the Level Editor W.Areas tab.
