Introduction
Measurement tools in SiteView let you easily capture spatial dimensions within your virtual tour using 360° panos, 3D Dollhouses, and reference plans. You can use these tools in both the Capture Viewer and the Plan Viewer, depending on what you need to measure. Use them to calculate distances, angles, areas, and volumes—helping you validate site conditions, monitor changes over time, and share measurable insights with your team.
Access Measurements
To open the Measurement tool in SiteView, click theMeasure icon in the left menu.
Note:
- Your personal unit preference (e.g., meters or feet) overrides the project’s unit setting. You can update this in your user settings.
- SiteView Observers and users with public access can take temporary measurements but cannot save or manage them.
Use Measurement Tools
The Measure panel offers several measurement types, each suited for different use cases and geometry types:
-
Distance – Measures a straight line between two points.
-
Radius – Measures the radius of a circular region.
-
Angle – Measures the angle formed by three points.
-
Path – Measures the total length of a connected line across multiple segments.
-
Area – Measures the surface area by outlining multiple connected points.
-
Volume – Measures the 3D space within a defined area.
Note: For increased accuracy when measuring on walls, floors, or other flat surfaces, use theRulerBoard feature. Refer to the RulerBoard article for detailed instructions.
How to Measure in the Capture Viewer
- Select the measurement type (e.g., Distance).
- Click on the pano to define each point.
- Click Save to store the measurement.
Note: When 3D Dollhouse data is unavailable or still processing, Depth Pick mode will be disabled and will switch to Stereo Pick mode.
- Depth Pick lets you select 3D points in a 360° pano with a single click.
- Stereo Pick requires selecting matching points from two different perspectives to generate 3D coordinates.
How to Measure in the Plan Viewer
- Select the measurement type (e.g., Area).
- Click points on the reference plan to outline your measurement.
- Press Enter to finish the shape, then click Save.
View and Manage Measurements
All saved measurements are listed in the Measurement Panel, where you can review, organize, and control their visibility.
You can manage measurements using the following actions:
- Click a measurement to jump directly to its location in the viewer.
- Use the
three-dot menu to rename, delete, or copy a link to the measurement.
- Apply filters to narrow down the list by:
- Capture – View measurements from All Captures or the Current Capture only.
- Measurement Type – Filter by tool used (e.g., Distance, Area).
Note: Measurements are tied to individual captures, which lets you compare site conditions across different dates and track changes over time.
To manage measurement visibility in the viewer:
- Click the
Show/Hide icon next to a measurement to toggle its visibility.
- Use the
three-dot menu next to the capture date to show or hide all measurements from that capture.
- To control overall visibility across the project, use
Layers in the left menu.
